Plasma Vortex Hypothesis
A minority scientific hypothesis, proposed by meteorologist Terence Meaden in the 1980s, that rotating columns of ionised air could naturally flatten simple circular patterns in crops; unable to account for the complex pictorial formations that became common after 1990.
