A Roman Catholic women's religious congregation, formally the Sisters of Loretto at the Foot of the Cross, founded in Kentucky in 1812; established Loretto Academy in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1853 and commissioned the adjoining Loretto Chapel, including its staircase, for the school.
